Latest CMVE Activities:
Spring 2016 Regional Workshop Series A Success – More than 150 professionals gathered at four locations around the state to discuss strategies for cultivating an inclusive campus culture for veterans. We appreciated the enthusiasm for these events and are grateful to Michigan State University, Macomb Community College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and Bay College for their kind hospitality in hosting the workshops (thanks, too, to Northwestern Michigan College for agreeing to host even if Mother Nature disagreed!).
CMVE Represented at the Service Academy Career Conference (SACC) in Washington, D.C. on May 6 – I had the opportunity to attend SACC along with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA), several big-name Michigan employers, and other partners to encourage separating officers to consider re-locating to Michigan to pursue education or employment. It was a great event and you can check out this write up of the trip from the Michigan Economic Development Council.
Steering Committee Retreat – CMVE’s Steering Committee met on May 10, 2016 for an all-day retreat that focused on in-depth strategic planning for the Kresge grant activities plan and CMVE’s sustainable future as an organization. The group is looking forward to sharing updates on these topics at the annual conference!
Multi-State Collaborative on Military Credit Annual Meeting – A team of 8 represented Michigan at the MCMC’s annual meeting May 12-13 in Chicago, IL. You can check on this nice write up of the meeting from one of our funders. I also encourage you to check out the updated MCMC project webpage, including a page about Michigan’s involvement in the Collaborative. Also, if you missed or want to refer back to the recent MCMC-sponsored presentations from the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) or Lansing Community College, you can access the slides and webinar recordings online. It was great to see so many from MI logged on for both webinars!
NSC/VA Certification Proposed Project – We are following the “Veterans Compliance Reporting Re-Engineering Project” proposal from the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) and wanted to pass along a link to a recording of the session on this project from the recent AACRAO conference in case you’re interested in learning more. You can also read more on NSC’s website. We have invited NSC to present at CMVE’s annual conference for a similar update on the status of the project.
Want to Present at CMVE’s 4th Annual Conference September 27-28? – Don’t forget to mark your calendars for September 27-28 to attend the CMVE’s 4th Annual Conference in Lansing, MI. Be sure to submit your proposal online by July 15, 2016 if you would like to be considered for a presentation at the conference!
