12.6.16 CMVE Briefing – Lots to Share, Including Holiday Cheer!

CMVE Announcements:

Kognito Outreach Kit

We’ve prepared a bundle of outreach materials intended to raise awareness and increase on-campus usage of the Veterans on Campus online training module available to all CMVE campuses at no cost through June 2018. The bundle suggests language to help get the word out about the tool and how to access it for your institution to use on campus websites or through email blasts. Several downloadable resources are also included to help market the tool. Click here to access these materials and please send along to campus units that may wish to utilize these resources, particularly your Human Resources offices. Feel free to send any questions about your campus’s access to this tool to Katie Giardello.

MI-litary Equivalency Project Updates

  • Recordings posted:
    • The slide deck and recording of the 11/9/16 webinar on Building Campus Strategy for the MI-litary Equivalency Project are now available for ideas on how to get started considering credit for military experience on your campus.
    • Similarly, the slide deck from last week’s (11/29) CAEL webinar on Talking PLA & Transferability is now available. The recording will be posted on the MEP project webpage If your campus is considering updating its PLA policies, this webcast has some excellent suggestions on building sound policies to support non-traditional students.
  • Save-the-Date for ACE webinar: ACE will present alongside several MI ACE faculty reviewers, covering the ACE Review Process – Insights from MI Faculty on 1/26/17 at 1PM. Once the registration link is available, I’ll send along but I encourage you to save the time on your calendar and let any parties on your campus that may also wish to participate know to do the same. This will be a particularly helpful presentation for faculty who you may work with frequently in determining credit equivalencies for military 3xperience on your campus, especially those that might be interested in becoming reviewers themselves!

MVAA Webcast Available – Understanding the Needs of Student Veterans in the Classroom

If any of you missed MVAA’s Dichondra Johnson’s presentation on Understanding the Needs of Student Veterans in the Classroom, you may want to take a look at the recording and make available to your campus networks. There were excellent insights shared as to how to support veterans in the academic environment.

MYVA Transformation and Online VA Healthcare Scheduling System Update

Some of you may know of the VA’s transformational efforts. If you’re not familiar or care for an update, check out this infographic, booklet, or video clip to learn more. VA also recently announced that veterans will be able to use a new app to schedule primary care appointments through VA beginning in January 2017. VA plans to add optometry, audiology, and mental-health scheduling in future phases of development.

UBER has announced a new and first-of-its-kind app feature that makes it easier for riders to thank their veteran drivers and members of military families for their service.  Driver-partners can now verify their military affiliation and when a rider is matched with a member of the UberMILITARY community, a notification will appear in their Uber app letting them know their driver is a veteran or military family member. Uber believes this will be instrumental to connecting our rider community with our UberMILITARY community.
